What is Biotin Pharmaceutical Grade

This product is a pharmaceutical-grade biotin with no additives or fillers and is the potent and essential vitamin B7.

Biotin is necessary for physiological processes of all organisms and plants, yet can only be synthesized by bacteria, yeasts, molds, algae and some plants. It is of great importance for the biochemistry of the human organism because it is directly involved in carbon dioxide transfer and therefore essential to the metabolism of carbohydrate and fat.

Known as vitamin B7 as well as vitamin H, biotin works as a part of the B vitamin complex to break down and utilize food for energy.

As a water-soluble vitamin, biotin helps in the synthesis of fatty acids, amino acids and glucose. Biotin is also utilized to manufacture intracellular carboxylase enzymes and is needed for normal growth and the health of skin and hair. Biotin helps maintain healthy bone marrow, blood cells and nerve tissue. Biotin is found in low levels in the brain, liver and muscle tissue. The body also synthesizes small amounts of biotin in the intestines via bacteria, which may be absorbed and contribute to daily needs.

A properly balanced diet can provide sufficient amounts of biotin. Typically found in liver, egg yolk, cereals, legumes and nuts, biotin can be characterized as relatively stable in heat, light and oxygen. However, food-processing techniques such as high heat can destroy biotin. As a result, less-processed versions of fresh foods will yield more biotin and subsequent health benefits.

Health Benefits of Biotin

The primary role of biotin lies in its ability to metabolize fats, proteins and carbohydrates. Biotin works as a vital part of several enzymes (where it functions as a coenzyme) involved in energy metabolism. Aside from helping in synthesis processes, biotin also helps the body utilize blood sugar (glucose) for its energy needs.

As a dietary supplement, the major benefit of biotin is improving and strengthening hair and nails. Biotin supplements can improve and restore thin, splitting or brittle toenails and fingernails as maintain healthy hair.

Symptoms of biotin deficiency include hair loss and a red scaly rash around the eyes, nose, mouth and genitals. Neurological symptoms of biotin deficiency may also include depression, lethargy, hallucinations and numbness of the extremities. The characteristic facial rash is referred to as the "biotin deficient face" by some clinical practitioners.

Biotin deficiency can actually be induced in humans by consistently feeding them raw egg whites, which contain a protein that binds to biotin and prevents its absorption. Long-term antibiotic use can interfere with biotin production in the intestine and increase the risk of deficiency symptoms. Long-term use of anti-seizure medications may also lead to biotin deficiency.

Purity and Concentration of Biotin

Potential Side Effects of Biotin

Side effects of biotin overuse are very rare. However, as this is a concentrated product, the potential for excess use is high. Be extremely careful in using this product. Use only calibrated milligram weight scales with an precision of 0.001 gram.

Suggested Use of Biotin

Because Biotin is extremely potent, it is not safe for use by the general public. Accurate measurement is critical and requires appropriate professional tools and analytic skills. Since a single serving of pure biotin is VERY small, do not attempt to measure this product using measuring spoons of any kind. The only safe way to measure this product for individual use will be using an accurate a digital gram scale with a precision of 0.001 gram (g).

Bioavailability, Mixing and Solubility of Biotin

Biotin has almost no taste and will not readily dissolve in water at room temperature, but it will dissolve it very hot water. If you are not a qualified health practice professional or otherwise qualified and experienced in laboratory quantitative techniques, and if you do not possess the skills and instrumentation to accurately measure this product you should not buy it. We sell a Biotin 1% product that is more appropriate for use by the general public.
