What is Broccoli Extract Powder?

This pure plant extract is derived from broccoli stems and flowers.

The potential benefits of broccoli consumption may be due to a substance called sulforaphane. This organosulfur compound (found in broccoli, brussel sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, bok choy, kale, collards, Chinese broccoli, broccoli raab, kohlrabi, mustard, turnip, radish, arugula and watercress) has been studied for various health benefits.

Sulforaphan, a compound found in broccoli, may activate a protein called Nrf2 in arteries. This protective protein has been found to be inactive in portions of some arteries.

As a dietary supplement, take 250 mg (rounded 1/16 tsp), or as directed by physician. Individual needs may vary. A 1/16 teaspoon equals 220 milligrams(mg) so a rounded 1/16 tsp is about 250 mg. Containing .37% by weight of sulfuraphane, a serving of 250 milligrams Broccoli extract will provide 925 micrograms of sulfuraphane.

Some studies show that dietary consumption of cruciferous vegetables containing sulforaphane interacts with drug detoxifying enzymes. Consult your medical professional before taking sulforaphane or broccoli extracts if you are taking prescription drugs.
