Coenzyme Q10
This Coenzyme Q10 is a pharmaceutical grade pure bulk nutritional powder assayed by the manufacturer to be 98.55% product. You will receive a sealed and labeled heavy duty 4 mil polyethylene bag of this bright yellow/orange powdered product. You won't receive the fancy retail packaging, but you will receive a great deal at or below wholesale prices for a high purity bulk quantity of this product. For accurate dosing of this product use an accurate sub-gram (or milligram) weight scale, or consult the Bulk Density volumetric table below only if you have calibrated (verified accurate by volume) microsized measuring spoons.

Coenzyme Q10 is a very important antioxidant found in the fatty membranes of intracellular organelles such as mitochondria, endoplasmic reticulum, golgi complex, etc. Coenzyme Q10 may be used either internally as a nutritional supplement or applied topically as a component in facial or skin creams. When taken as a nutritional supplement or as a topical agent Coenzyme Q10 may help prevent free-radical production and thereby maintain more normalized Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP) production in cellular tissues.

Internal Use: Coenzyme Q10 can be taken internally as a nutritional supplement with benefits including anti-aging, increased energy, enhanced cognition and organ/tissue protection. Recommended internal use doses vary between 50mg and 500mg per day. For optimal cognitive enhancement take 250 milligrams Coenzyme Q10 (see oral recipe below) and 1 to 2 grams Acetyl-L-Carnitine per day.

Optimal Oral Bioavailability:   Coenzyme Q10 bioavailability and absorption is dependent upon many factors. The poorest oral bioavailability for Coenzyme Q10 occurs when it is taken orally as a powder in capsules. Since Coenzyme Q10 is not water soluble when taken in capsule form very little is absorbed. Commonly, retail ready Coenzyme Q10 oral supplements are delivered in gel caps dissolved in soybean oil. Whereas Coenzyme Q10 dissolved in soybean oil is better than powder capsules, there are significant problems with this delivery method that significantly limit or reduce Coenzyme Q10's bioavailability.

Maximal Bioavailability Oral Coenzyme Q10 Recipe:   Clinical studies have demonstrated that the highest bioavailability of orally ingested Coenzyme Q10 can be achieved when it is dissolved in saturated oils such as coconut oil or butter. This simple Coenzyme Q10 recipe and procedure can yield almost 400% greater absorption and blood levels than when Coenzyme Q10 is taken as a powder. You can just as easily substitute butter, but we will be using coconut oil for this recipe. You can purchase a pint or quart of virgin coconut oil at your local health market. Coconut oil is solid at up to about 76°F, so depending upon where you live and the time of the year your coconut oil may be solid or liquid at the start of your recipe. You will need to melt about 1/2 cup (4 fluid ounces) of coconut oil on the stove and heat to about 140°F, hot to the touch but not so hot that you will be badly burned if touched. Next, measure out about 100 milliliters (about 3 and 1/3 fluid ounces) of liquid coconut oil and put then put any excess coconut oil back in the original container for future use. Put the 100 milliliters coconut oil back on the stove and verify it is again about 140°F and then add 5 grams Coenzyme Q10. Whereas 1 level tablespoon of loose Coenzyme Q10 powder will approximate about 5 grams by weight, we recommend that you not measure by volume but instead measure your 5 grams Coenzyme Q10 with an accurate gram weight or milligram weight scale with a minimum accuracy of 1/10 gram. After adding the 5 grams Coenzyme Q10 powder to the 100ml hot oil you will notice that the powder will almost instantly melt and then thoroughly dissolve into hot oil. Stir for about 30 seconds and then remove the oil from heat and pour into a small plastic container or bowl. After allowing your oil to cool to room temperature (72°F) it will turn solid again and you can then cover and keep your oil in the refrigerator for use. One level teaspoon of this blended oil will contain about 250 milligrams Coenzyme Q10, a common once or twice a day dose. For maximal absorption and bioavailability the CoQ10 oil should be consumed with meals and can be spread on hot toast or mixed with food and consumed.

Topical Formulas, Preparation and Procedures: Coenzyme Q10 is frequently used as an ingredient in anti-aging creams and lotions, reducing wrinkles and age spots, and improving the complexion and elasticity of body and facial skin. Topical use of Coenzyme Q10 is usually prepared in concentrations of about 1% but generally not exceeding 2% by weight. Since Coenzyme Q10 is completely insoluble in water it must first be dissolved or blended into the oil based ingredients of your topical formula prior to blending into water based components (if present). Commonly the mixing temperatures for topical oil based cream components vary between 110°F and 150°F, depending upon the sensitivity of those ingredients to heat. Because Coenzyme Q10 has a relatively low melting temperature of approximately 128°F it is recommended that you mix your Coenzyme Q10 powder with the most heat insensitive components of your oily formula ingredients at a temperature of at least 140°F. You will notice that upon adding Coenzyme Q10 powder to the hot oily ingredients it will almost instantly and completely dissolve into the oil homogeneously, even without stirring depending upon the viscosity of your oils. For thicker oils thorough stirring or blending will be necessary and recommended. This is exactly what you want to occur for maximal topical bioavailability, because you want there to be no powder Coenzyme Q10 in your cream, but you do want the Coenzyme Q10 to be completely dissolved. Because Coenzyme Q10 is a bright orange color you will notice that at the recommended 1% to 2% concentration your otherwise white cream or lotion will become a light yellow-orange color. After you have your Coenzyme Q10 dissolved you can cool that batch down to 110°F, add in the rest of your heat sensitive oil based ingredients and then blend into your water based components at this same 110°F temperature.

Recommended Storage: As a super antioxidant, Coenzyme-Q10 is extremely susceptible to oxidation if it is allowed to be in contact with the open air. After oxidation of CoQ10 has occurred it will change from its usual bright orange color to a dark brown color. CoQ10 may only be allowed contact with air for the briefest time when you are removing your daily dose, repackaging, or transferring this bulk product to one or more resealable bags. I do not recommend keeping CoQ10 in a resealable jar because of the volume of air that will be exchanged with each opening of the container as you remove your daily doses. The best way to seal and protect CoQ10 is in a resealable zip locking plastic bag that can have a minimal amount of air present inside the bag along with the CoQ10 powder. I also do not recommend that you take your daily dose from a bag that contains more than 25 grams CoQ10. When purchasing larger 100g, 250g, or 1 kilogram bulk powder quantities of CoQ10 you would do well to place about 25 grams in a resealable bag and then take your daily dose from that smaller bag so as to minimize the air exposure to the bulk of your CoQ10 supply.
