Conjugated linoleic acids (CLA) are a family of isomers of linoleic acid, an essential fatty acid. This means that the body cannot synthesize linoleic acid from other food components, and must be supplemented in the diet.
LA is a polyunsaturated fatty acid used in the biosynthesis of arachidonic acid (AA) and thus some prostaglandins. It is found in the lipids of cell membranes.
