DL-Malic Acid, 500 grams:
    This food grade nutritional supplement and food ingredient, DL-Malic Acid (also commonly referred to as sour salt), is assayed by the manufacturer to be 99.3% powdered nutritional product. You will receive a sealed and labeled heavy-duty 4 mil polyethylene bag containing 500 grams of this as manufactured pure bulk white powder nutritional raw material. Five hundred grams is also 500 grams, or approximately 1.102 pounds, or approximately 17.637 ounces by weight. You won't receive the fancy retail packaging, but you will receive a great deal at or below wholesale prices for a high purity bulk quantity of this product. This product dissolves quickly in water and has an extremely sour but pleasant taste when mixed with water or juice and then sweetened with ample sugar or some other sweetener. Just mix your usual dose with water, or juice, and drink.

    Recommended Dose: For adults take one (1) level 1/4 teaspoon (approximately 963 milligrams) two or three times per day, preferably with meals, or as directed by your physician or health practice professional. Because Malic Acid is extremely sour tasting you may want to include an extra portion of sugar or some other sweetener to counteract the sourness of the Malic Acid. When sufficiently sweetened, 1/4 teaspoon of Malic Acid dissolved in 16 ounces (475 milliliters) of water tastes similar to strong lemonade, and not bad tasting!

    Malic Acid as a Food Additive: Malic Acid is typically used to make foods, candies and drinks sour. I it sometimes used in combination with another sour salt, Citric Acid, but Malic Acid is several times more sour and more expensive. Malic Acid is the souring agent of choice for so called "extreme sour" candies such as SweeTarts®, Mega Warheads®, Jolly Ranchers®, and Sour Patch®.

    Malic Acid as a Nutritional Supplement: Because Malic acid is both derived from food sources and synthesized in the human body with the citric acid (Krebs) cycle. Malic Acid is important for proper energy products by the body during aerobic and anaerobic physical activity and strenuous exercise. Under aerobic conditions Malic Acid is oxidized to oxaloacetate providing the reducing equivalents necessary for the mitochondrial malate-aspartate redox shuttle transer. Under anaerobic conditions, where a buildup of excess of reducing equivalents inhibits glycolysis, Malic Acid simultaneously reduces to succinate and oxidizes to oxaloacetate and is thereby capable of removing the accumulating reducing equivalents. Malic Acid promotes the reversal of hypoxias inhibition of glycolysis and energy production. By removing excess reducing equivalents malic acid improves energy production in patients with Primary Fibromyalgia and reversing the negative effect of the relative hypoxia that has been found in these patients. But because of Malic Acid's energy enhancing effects under otherwise energy deficient conditions during strenuous exercise, Malic Acid may likely be of benefit to healthy individuals engaged in performance sports and physically demanding activities. Performance athletes and body builders interested in maximizing their energy production and performance may want to consider the benefits of Malic Acid Supplementation.
