This PureBulk product is a blend containing 1% folic acid and 99% mannitol, a sugar alcohol.
Folic acid (also known as vitamin B9, folate or pteroyl-L-glutamate) is part of the B vitamin complex and is an important water-soluble vitamin. The human body needs folate to synthesize and maintain DNA, as well as to act as a cofactor in certain biological reactions. Folic acid is especially important in aiding rapid cell division and growth, such as during infancy and pregnancy. Children and adults both require folic acid to produce healthy red blood cells.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recommends a Daily Value (DV) of 400 MICROGRAMS a day (0.4 milligrams/day) for adults and children four or more years of age. A daily intake of 800 micrograms (mcg) is recommended for pregnant women and those who are planning pregnancy. A serving size of 1 milligram is the same as 1000 micrograms, and provides 250% of the FDA daily value for adults, or 125% of the FDA daily value for pregnant women.
Keep in mind as well that excess folic acid can inhibit vitamin B12 absorption and can also mask its deficiency, so it would be a good idea to take vitamin B12 supplements in conjunction with folic acid.
