What is Glutathione Reduced?
Glutathione is a crystalline and water soluble tripeptide composed of the amino acids glutamate, cysteine and glycine. It exists in reduced and oxidized forms. Purebulk offers the reduced form (conventionally called glutathione and abbreviated GSH). The oxidized form is known as glutathione disulfide or GSSG.Reduced glutathione tripeptide works as an antioxidant, protecting tissue by neutralizing free radical molecules in the body that can damage cell membranes.
Glutathione is present inside cells mainly in its reduced GSH state. GSH synthesis is dependent on the availability of substrates, with cysteine being the most critical. Aside from cysteine, vitamin B6, riboflavin, niacinamide, selenium, glutathione reductase and lipoic acid are all compounds necessary for generating and maintaining adequate levels of reduced glutathione within the body.
Glutathione plays crucial roles in catalysis, metabolism, signal transduction, gene expression and apoptosis. It protects the immune system by promoting antigen presentation and stimulating CD8 cells. Glutathione is directly involved in protecting the liver.
Glutathione is involved in amino acid transport across cell membranes (the g-glutamyl cycle) and is a part of the peptidoleukotrienes. It serves as a cofactor for some enzymatic reactions and as an aid in the rearrangement of protein disulfide bonds.
Glutathione is widely found in fresh and frozen fruits and vegetables, fish and meat. Plant sources rich in glutathione include asparagus, avocado and walnuts.
Benefits of Glutathione Reduced
Glutathione Reduced (GSH) is the body’s most abundant natural antioxidant. It helps turn carbohydrates into energy and inhibits the accumulation of oxidized fats. On the cellular level, glutathione facilitates the transport of important nutrients across cell membranes while supporting the integrity of red blood cells.Sufficient levels of glutathione are required to support the immune system. Glutathione is also necessary for replication of the lymphocyte immune cells.
Purity and Concentration of Glutathione Reduced
