L-Ornithine alpha-Ketoglutarate (OKG), 250 grams
    This pharmaceutical grade amino acid L-Ornithine alpha-Ketoglutarate assayed by the manufacturer to be 95.2% product. You will receive a sealed and labeled heavy duty 4 mil polyethylene bag containing 250 grams of this white powder product. Two hundred and fifty grams is also 250 grams, or approximately 8.818 ounces by weight. You won't receive the fancy retail packaging, but you will receive a great deal at or below wholesale prices for a high purity bulk quantity of this product. This product dissolves somewhat quickly in water and has mildly sour taste. Just mix your usual dose with water or your favorite citrus juice and drink.

    L-Ornithine is an amino acid produced from the enzyme arginase when the amino acid L-Arginine is acted upon to create urea. The amino acid alpha-Ketoglutarate is a key member of the Krebs Cycle. Bound together L-Ornithine and alpha-Ketoglutarate significantly increases the bioavailability of OKG verses taking L-Ornithine as a free form amino acid. Supplementation with L-Ornithine alpha-Ketoglutarate significantly increases blood levels of L-Ornithine versus the free form amino acid L-Ornithine. Because L-Ornithine is a feedback inhibitor of the enzyme arginase, higher levels of L-Ornithine in the general blood circulation can significantly reduce the action of arginase on L-Arginine and L-Arginine blood levels can be increased. Supplementation of L-Ornithine alpha-Ketoglutarate can profoundly increase blood levels of L-Arginine even without L-Arginine supplementation. Taking some form of both L-Arginine and L-Ornithine alpha-Ketoglutarate, therefore can dramatically increase blood levels of L-Arginine. As a key member of the Urea Cycle L-Ornithine and L-Ornithine alpha-Ketoglutarate are frequently prescribed for patients with severe burns thus allowing the products of tissue breakdown including toxic ammonia to be more efficiently eliminated from the body. In a similar way supplementation with L-Ornithine alpha-Ketoglutarate by performance athletes and bodybuilders can significantly reduce recovery time following strenuous workouts and exercise.

    The commonly recommended dose for L-Ornithine alpha-Ketoglutarate is between 1 gram and 3 grams per day in divided doses.
