What is N-Acetyl L-Tyrosine (NALT)?
N-Acetyl L-Tyrosine (NALT) is an acetylated derivative of the essential amino acid L-tyrosine. It is more rapidly absorbed and bioavailable than L-tyrosine alone and less prone to urinary excretion.L-tyrosine is one of the 20 nonessential amino acids used by cells to synthesize proteins. Tyrosine is considered a nonessential amino acid since it can be made in the body from phenylalanine, another amino acid.
Tyrosine is used by the body to make chemical messengers that are involved in conditions involving the brain, and as such, plays a factor in mental alertness
Tyrosine is a precursor of the thyroid hormones threonine and thyroxine as well as the adrenal and growth hormones epinephrine, dopamine and norepinephrine.
It is also used in the body to create melanin, pigmentation in the skin that helps shield the body from the harmful ultraviolet rays of the sun.
Tyrosine deficiency may cause a variety of conditions, including muscle loss, weakness, low protein levels, mood disorders and liver damage. Most people suffering from phenylketonuria, the inability to metabolize phenylalanine, are deficient in tyrosine.
Dietary sources of tyrosine include soy products, chicken, turkey, fish, peanuts, almonds, avocados, bananas, milk, cheese, yogurt, cottage cheese, lima beans, pumpkin seeds and sesame seeds.
Health Benefits of N-Acetyl L-Tyrosine (NALT)
N-acetyl L-tyrosine aids in the synthesis of the neurotransmitters norepinephrine and dopamine. It is converted into key physiological compounds including epinephrine, levodopa, Coenzyme Q10, melanin and various thyroid hormones.Tyrosine is used to heighten mental alertness, increase feelings of well-being and offset physical and mental fatigue, particularly during heavy exercise.
Tyrosine has an antioxidant effect, helping to protect cell membranes from the damage caused by free radical molecules.
Purity and Concentration of N-Acetyl L-Tyrosine (NALT)
This pharmaceutical-grade amino acid N-acetyl L-tyrosine contains no fillers, taste additives or anti-caking agents.Suggested Use of N-Acetyl L-Tyrosine (NALT)
As a dietary supplement, take 400 milligrams (1/8 tsp) daily before a meal, or as directed by a physician. Individual needs vary. You can see the full bulk density/volumetric conversion chart for NALT here. A serving size of 1/32 teaspoon is equal to 103 milligrams, so 3/32 of a teaspoon equals 309 milligrams. A serving of 1/8 of a teaspoon equals 412 milligrams, so a scant 1/8 tsp is about 400 mg.Potential Side Effects of N-Acetyl L-Tyrosine (NALT)

Instances of overstimulation, heart palpitations and arrhythmia have also been reported. Those with high blood pressure or who suffer from migraines should not use tyrosine supplements. Those taking monoamine oxidase (MAO) (Wikipedia) inhibitors should not use tyrosine or phenylalanine supplements. Tyrosine should not be taken at the same time as levodopa, a medication used to treat Parkinson's disease. People with liver or kidney disease should not take this or any other amino acid supplement without first consulting their physician. This product is not recommended for women who are pregnant or nursing.
