What is N,N-Dimethyl Glycine Anhydrous?

N,N-dimethylglycine anhydrous is a dimethylated form of the amino acid glycine with a chemical structure just like choline.

Dimethylglycine is also known as Vitamin B15 or pangamic acid. It helps to optimize oxygen uptake and offers quicker recovery time from strenuous exercise. It functions as a methyl donor, very much like betaine anhydrous.

Methyl donors are helpful in the synthesis of several brain chemicals and can have an influence on energy, well-being, alertness and concentration.

Other compounds considered to be methyl donors include trimethylglycine (TMG), S-Adenosyl methionine (SAM-e) (Wikipedia) and DMAE, together with the B vitamins folic acid and B12.

DMG is a normal physiologically active nutrient available in foods such as cereal grains, liver and beans. Humans also naturally produce DMG in small amounts.

As a nutritional supplement, DMG functions as a building block for the synthesis of many important substances such as choline, SAM-e, the amino acid methionine, several hormones, neurotransmitters and DNA. TMG (trimethylglycine), otherwise known as betaine, is essentially the amino acid glycine bound to three methyl groups, one more than DMG.

As an analog of glycine, DMG aids in energy production and can help maintain acid balance and minimize muscle fatigue during and after strenuous activity.

Glycine is a nonessential amino acid and is beneficial in creating muscle tissue and changing glucose into energy. It is also needed to maintain healthy central nervous and digestive systems.

Glycine helps prevent the breakdown of muscle by boosting the body’s levels of creatine, a compound that helps build muscle mass. High concentrations of glycine are found both in the muscles, and in the skin and other connective tissues as well.

Almost one-third of collagen, responsible for keeping the skin and connective tissue firm and flexible, is made up of glycine.

Glycine helps supply the body with glucose needed for energy. For this reason it is considered a glucogenic amino acid. It helps manage healthy and optimal blood sugar levels.

Glycine is also essential for a healthy, normally functioning digestive system. It helps control the synthesis of the bile acid used to digest fats, and is included in many commercial gastric antacid agents.

Health Benefits of N,N-Dimethyl Glycine Anhydrous

N,N Dimethylglycine can boost the immune system, improve cellular oxygen utilization and act as an antioxidant by stimulating the proliferation of lymphocytes and boosting interferon production.

Because DMG can significantly increase cellular oxygen utilization, it can also neutralize lactic acid build-up in muscle tissues at a much faster rate following strenuous exercise and physical workouts.

As a methyl donor, DMG is needed in the conversion of homocysteine to methionine which in turn converts to SAMe.

Purity and Concentration of N,N-Dimethyl Glycine Anhydrous

This food-grade N,N Dimethylglycine consists of very fine white granular crystals. It contains no fillers, taste additives or anti-caking agents.

Suggested Use of N,N-Dimethyl Glycine Anhydrous?

The suggested serving size for DMG is 500 milligrams taken one to three times daily, depending on individual needs. One level 1/8 teaspoon contains about 374 milligrams. A serving of 1/16 tsp equals 187 milligrams, so 3/16 tsp equals 561 mg. You can see the full bulk density/volumetric conversion chart for N,N-Dimethyl Glycine Anhydrous here.
