This Niacinamide USP is a pharmaceutical grade form of Vitamin B3 that is manufactured in strict compliance to the United States Pharmacopeia standards (USP28) and is assayed by the manufacturer to be 99.91% product. You will receive a double sealed labeled bulk polyethylene bag containing 250 grams of this white powder product. Two hundred and fifty grams is also 250 grams, or approximately 8.818 ounces by weight. This product dissolves quickly in water and has a sour taste that is only slightly bitter. Just mix your usual dose with water or juice and drink.

Niacinamide is synonymously know also as Vitamin B3 and/or Nicotinamide and/or Nicotinic Acid Amide and is a water soluble member of the family of B vitamins. There are two commonly used forms of Vitamin B3, Niacin and this form, Niacinamide. The chemical difference between these form is that this Niacinamide form has an amide group attached to the basic Niacin form. But there are additional differences in these forms regarding their nutritional use. Whereas the more basic Niacin form is typically used in lowering blood lipid levels (including LDL Cholesterol), This amide form is commonly taken and has been demonstrated clinically to help reduce lipid accumulations from arterial walls and it is also helpful in stabilizing blood sugar levels of type I diabetics. Additional benefits of Niacinamide supplementation include cognitive improvement in the elderly, treating acne, helping to reduce fatigue in some individuals.

Type I Diabetes: Niacinamide has been clinically demonstrated to help reduce and prevent the onset of diabetes in experimental animals. Niacinamide enhances and protects insulin sensitivity and secretion, by helping to pancreas beta cell function and metabolism. Consult your physician if you intend to use oral Niacinamide to treat diabetes. See Elliot RB and Pilcher CC, Prevention of diabetes in normal school children. Diabetes Res Clin Pract14, S85, 1991; and Mandrup Paulsen T, et al., Nicotinamide in the prevention of insulin dependent diabetes mellitus. Diabetes Metabol Rev 9, 295-309, 1993.

Acne Treatments using topical 4% Niacinamide: Topical gels and creams using 4% Niacinamide (by weight) are commonly available and have been demonstrated effective in clinical trials when applied regularly over a minimum of 4 to 8 weeks. Since Niacinamide is readily water soluble you can mix about 1.1 grams Niacinamide per ounce of aloe vera gel or cream base to yield approximately 4% Niacinamide. Consult your physician if you intend to use Niacinamide topically to treat acne. Osteoarthritis and Rheumatoid Arthritis: In relatively high doses Niacinamide has been demonstrated effective in the treatment of both Osteoarthritis and Rheumatoid Arthritis. Studies have determined the therapeutic amount of Niacinamide to be 250 mg per dose taken between 4 and 16 times per day, although because of the potential for liver inflammation with doses exceeding 2 grams per day, doses greater than 1 gram per day should only be taken under the care and supervision of a physician. For effective treatment and the reduction of symptoms associated with arthritis it can take 8 to 12 weeks of 250 mg doses taken 4 times per day. Consult your physician if you have arthritis and wish to take oral Niacinamide as a treatment for your condition. See: Jonas WB, Rapoza CP, Blair WF. The effect of Niacinamide on osteoarthritis: A pilot study. Can Med Ass J 1959;81: 235-238.

Caution: Potential drug interactions. Do not take oral Niacinamide if you are currently taking anticonvulsant drugs such as carbamazepine or primidone. Consult your prescribing physician if you are currently taking any anticonvulsant drug.

Recommended doses for Niacinamide vary from as little as the daily allowance to as much as 250 milligrams three or four times per day (totaling 750 to 1000 milligrams per day). Since Niacinamide is also Vitamin B3, the daily allowance is 2-12 milligrams for children, 14 milligrams for women, 16 milligrams for men, and 18 milligrams for pregnant or breast-feeding women. Since Niacinamide can also increase stomach acid production it is best taken with meals. Do not exceed 1 gram per day without the advice and supervision of your physician.
