Vitamin E (DL-alpha tocopheryl acetate) oil is mainly used as a food preservative and a food additive used in the fortification of products that include margarine, oil and fat, nutrition products and baby food. It is a synthetic form of Vitamin E. While it is cheaper than other forms of Vitamin E, it is not as active in the body as the natural D-alpha tocopherol form of the vitamin found in the products listed above.Comparing the natural and synthetic forms, it takes 150 IU of synthetic (dl-) vitamin E to equal 100 IU of natural (d-) vitamin E.
As one of the many nutrients that have protective properties, vitamin E’s main function is to serve as an antioxidant, maintaining the integrity of the body's intracellular membrane by shielding its physical stability and providing a defense line against tissue damage brought about by oxidation. Vitamin E is used in skin creams and lotions for its soothing properties.
Vitamin E is absorbed from the intestines, along with fat and bile salts, and carried to the liver to be used or stored. As a coenzyme in cellular membranes, vitamin E acts as a scavenger for free radicals that are destructive to the cell membrane and internal cellular components.
Health Benefits of Vitamin E
The protective, nutritional antioxidant function of vitamin E works synergistically with other antioxidants, such as vitamin C, beta-carotene, glutathione (L-cysteine), and selenium.Vitamin E keeps arteries flexible and elastic to allow blood to flow freely and helps prevent arteries from clogging.
Purity and Concentration of Vitamin E (DL)?
This PureBulk oil is free of other additives and fillers.Potential Side Effects of Vitamin E (DL) ZMC
The health risk of too much vitamin E is low. It is considered safe if taken as suggested. Too much vitamin E can cause nausea, diarrhea, stomach cramps, fatigue, weakness, headache, blurred vision, rash, and bruising and bleeding, and possible stroke.Persons with diabetes or heart disease should not take more than 400 IU/day. In people taking blood thinners (anticoagulants) though, more than 800 IU a day of vitamin E may interfere with the body's ability to clot blood.
Suggested Use
Vitamin E (DL) Oil's recommended use is as a preservative or additive used to fortify foods with the vitamin. While it sometimes used as a nutritional supplement, PureBulk recommends using the natural d-form vitamin E products listed at the top of this description for that purpose.References and Further Reading
