Product Details

What is Niacinamide?

Niacinamide, also called nicotinamide, Vitamin B3, or nicotinic acid amide, is a water-soluble member of the family of B vitamins. Vitamin B3 is commercially available in two forms: niacin and niacinamide. The chemical difference between the two forms is that niacinamide has an amide group attached to the basic niacin form.

Both are readily absorbed from the small intestine but have different effects on the body. Both compounds can convert into the enzyme nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) and subsequently NADH. NADH is the reduced form of this enzyme, and it plays a key role in energy production. NAD helps add and remove electrons from various molecules to help transfer energy, repair DNA, protect cells from damage, and regulate inflammation.

Niacinamide vs. Niacin

In small amounts (less than 100 mg), niacin and niacinamide can be used interchangeably. However, they do produce different actions on the body in larger amounts. Niacin is important in the balance of good (HDL) and bad (LDL) cholesterol in the bloodstream. Niacinamide acts more to promote a healthy insulin response and to maintain joint health. Unlike niacin, niacinamide doesn’t have vasodilating effects, meaning it doesn’t cause skin flushing. As such, some prefer to take niacinamide supplements to avoid this potential niacin side effect.

Potential Niacinamide Benefits

Niacinamide Supplements for Energy

Vitamin B3 or niacinamide works with vitamin B1, riboflavin (vitamin B2) , pyridoxine (vitamin B6), pantothenic acid, and biotin to break down and convert the carbohydrates, fats, and proteins in food into energy. Vitamin B3 is also helpful in the synthesis of hydrochloric acid, which is necessary for proper digestion. Vitamin B3 catalyzes REDOX reactions in the body to generate energy, break down dietary fats, create certain hormones, process genetic material (DNA), and for the growth and maturation of cells.

Niacinamide as an Antioxidant

Niacinamide plays a key role in clearing the body of toxic and harmful chemicals. It also provides antioxidant benefits by increasing NAD production. With a boosted supply of NAD, the body can repair and protect cells from oxidative stress and damage.

Purity and Concentration of Niacinamide

PureBulk’s niacinamide USP powder is a pharmaceutical-grade form of vitamin B3 manufactured in strict compliance with United States Pharmacopeia standards (USP28). It contains no fillers, taste additives, or anti-caking agents.

Potential Niacinamide Side Effects

Niacinamide is safe at suggested serving sizes. Do not take oral niacinamide if you are currently taking anticonvulsant drugs, such as carbamazepine or primidone. Excessive doses of vitamin B3 can cause liver damage, peptic ulcers, and skin rashes. Consult with a physician before taking niacinamide supplements.
