What is L-Methionine?

L-methionine is an essential amino acid required by the body to synthesize S-Adenosyl_methionine (SAMe)(Wikipedia), a naturally occurring compound found in almost every tissue and fluid in the body.

SAMe plays a role in the immune system, helps maintain cell membranes and helps produce and break down brain chemicals such as serotonin, melatonin and dopamine.

L-methionine is integrated with Adenosine triphosphate (ATP)(Wikipedia) in producing SAMe.

Methionine is an intermediate in the production of two other sulfur containing amino acids, cysteine and taurine, which enhance the body's natural ability to eliminate toxins, build strong tissues and support cardiovascular health.

The body utilizes sulfur to develop hair follicles and promote healthy hair, skin and nail growth. Sulfur improves the production of lecithin in the liver, which reduces liver fat, protects the kidneys and reduces bladder irritation by regulating the formation of ammonia in the urine.

Methionine is one of three amino acids needed by the body to manufacture creatine , a compound used for energy production. This nutrient is found primarily in muscle tissue, and provides the energy muscles need to move. Creatine is necessary for all muscular function supports normal functioning of the heart and circulatory system.

Methionine is lipotropic; it assists the liver in processing fats (lipids) more efficiently. Other lipotropic compounds include choline, inositol, and betaine (trimethylglycine), all of which help ensure normal liver function, essential for the elimination of toxins from the body. Methionine also supports liver function by maintaining healthy glutathione supplies, and glutathione in turn neutralizes toxins in the liver.

Methionine is an essential amino acid, meaning that it must be consumed in the diet, primarily through protein intake or supplementation.

High levels of methionine can be found in sesame seeds, Brazil nuts, fish, eggs, beans, garlic, lentils, yogurt, onions, meats, and some other plant seeds.

Health Benefits of Methionine

L-Methionine helps regulate the availability of folic acid, a vitamin necessary during pregnancy.

Methionine also improves the body’s ability to synthesize muscle protein. As a source of sulfur, it is required for the synthesis of other substances important for the efficient production of energy in the body such as choline, creatine and carnitine.

It assists in the breakdown of fats and thus impedes the build-up of fat in the arteries. It supports the digestive system and can be converted to cysteine, a precursor to glutathione and another necessary ingredient in detoxifying the liver.

Methionine is an effective antioxidant as the sulfur it supplies intercepts and wards off free radical molecules that can damage cell membranes.

Purity and Concentration of Methionine

Purebulk L- Methionine capsules contain no fillers, additives or anti-caking agents. Gelatin capsular material is from a bovine source; vegetarian capsules are from cellulose.
