L-cysteine HCl anhydrous is the hydrochloride salt of L-cysteine, a semi-essential, sulfur-containing amino acid and is an important structural component in many proteins. L-cysteine is notable for being able to form or reduce di-sulfide bonds, and is necessary for the synthesis of the anti-oxidant tripeptide, glutathione. The thiol group on L-cysteine reacts with reactive free radicals that may cause oxidative harm and stress.
