What are Vitamin D3 and K2 Softgels?

Vitamin D3 and K2 are fat-soluble essential nutrients, meaning they work best when consumed with other fats. Fatty fish, fish oil, eggs, milk, and butter are good sources of vitamin D, and the body can produce it when exposed to sunlight. Unsurprisingly, many people experience a dip in vitamin D during the winter months due to staying indoors more often. One of vitamin D’s primary functions is to aid in calcium absorption. The body uses this mechanism to build and maintain healthy bones and teeth.

Vitamin K is found in fatty foods like cheese, egg yolks, and liver. Vegetarian- and began-friendly vitamin K food sources include broccoli, kale, lettuce, spinach, soybeans, and vegetable oil. Vitamin K is critical for blood clotting and plays a role in bone health by promoting calcium absorption in the bones and teeth. Vitamin K may also support heart health by attenuating blood vessel calcification.

What is MCT Oil?

Medium-chain triglycerides (MCT) are medium-length chains of triglyceride fatty acids. The body can digest medium-chain triglycerides much easier than long-chain fatty acids. Palm kernel oil and coconut oil are the richest sources of MCTs. In fact, MCTs account for more than half the fat content of coconut oil. Because vitamins D3 and K2 are fat-soluble, MCT oil can improve their absorption in the body.

Potential Vitamin D3 and K2 Benefits

Vitamin D3 and K2 for Strong Bones

The body needs vitamin D to build and sustain strong bones and teeth. Vitamin D achieves this by improving calcium absorption from foods. It also synthesizes osteocalcin proteins that help calcify bones by drawing calcium into the bones and teeth. However, it will leech calcium from the bones to maintain the necessary vitamin D blood levels if food sources are scarce. Over time, this can lead to bone loss and osteoporosis. Vitamin K also supports bone health by activating osteocalcin proteins after vitamin D creates them. These two vitamins synergize to provide better bone mineral density than taking either alone.

Vitamin D3 and K2 for Heart Health

A growing body of research has found that vitamin D3 and K2 have interconnected roles when it comes to heart health. Blood vessel calcification is one of the top underlying causes of heart disease. The calcification process speeds up when vitamin K is low and accelerates dramatically if vitamin D is simultaneously high. Researchers believe that taking vitamin K with vitamin D supports heart health by providing the necessary vitamin K to prevent blood vessels from accumulating mineral deposits and calcifying.

Potential Vitamin D3 and K2 Side Effects

Vitamins D and K do not typically cause side effects as they are essential nutrients to sustain health. However, taking too much vitamin D3 and K2 can cause fatigue, drowsiness, headache, loss of appetite, nausea, and dry mouth. Individuals taking anticoagulants (e.g., warfarin) should consult their physicians before taking vitamin D3 and K2 supplements.
