Product Details

Beta-hydroxybutyrate (BHB) calcium powder may be a mouthful to say, but this compound continues to garner attention as low-carb diets grow in popularity. When individuals make the change to a low-carb diet, their bodies switch from burning glucose to burning fat for energy. The liver then breaks down fatty acids and generates ketones in the process. The body uses these ketones when carb stores are low as a fuel source for muscles, organs, and even the brain. Of the three ketones created during this process, beta-hydroxybutyrate (BHB) is the most plentiful. It accounts for over three-fourths of the total ketones.

What is BHB Calcium?

BHB salts bind with a mineral such as calcium to improve its absorption. Once consumed, the digestive system removes the calcium to use the BHB as energy while the mineral supports other bodily functions. Many individuals take calcium beta-hydroxybutyrate when starting a low-carb diet to help them adapt to the change.

Potential Calcium Beta-Hydroxybutyrate Benefits

While the body can produce ketones, it may struggle to make enough when beginning a low-carb diet. BHB Calcium powder may be able to help individuals in the following ways:

  • Eases the initial side effects of a low-carb diet. The body never overlooks a sudden and massive change in diet. Problems such as brain fog and fatigue are common complaints because the body isn’t used to producing enough ketones to bridge the energy gap. Supplementing with calcium beta-hydroxybutyrate may help support ketone levels to allow individuals to manage the transition phase to a low-carb diet.
  • Supports cognition. Brain fog isn’t the only cognitive issue caused by switching to a low-carb diet. The brain needs fuel to function. All aspects of cognition can go awry without adequate energy, including an inability to focus, memory recall, and more. Calcium beta-hydroxybutyrate may help restore the fuel to the brain as it can provide up to 70% of the brain’s energy needs.
  • Potential to ease inflammation. Oxidative stress can wreak havoc on the human body, leaving stress and inflammation in its wake. BHB Calcium helps reduce inflammatory biomarkers and may be an effective means of reducing inflammation.
  • May support weight loss. The body goes into a state of ketosis when carbs are low, such as when sleeping or while on a low-carb diet. When in ketosis, the body burns fat for fuel rather than glucose. Because of this, the body may be able to burn more fat while in ketosis. However, staying in this state is often difficult because the body is used to carbs for energy. Taking beta-hydroxybutyrate calcium may help resupply this lost energy store and keep people in ketosis for longer. Ketone supplements like calcium beta-hydroxybutyrate may also help suppress appetite to assist in weight loss efforts.

Potential Calcium Beta-Hydroxybutyrate Side Effects

Most individuals tolerate ketone supplements like BHB Calcium well. The most common potential BHB Calcium side effects include stomach discomfort, nausea, and diarrhea.
