Product Details

What is Arginine HCl (Vegan)?

L-Arginine, often shortened to arginine, is an amino acid and a common component of proteins. Arginine is highly adaptable and functions as a precursor to several other amino acids, such as creatine, glutamate (the precursor to glutamine), and proline. The body can synthesize arginine from citrulline; however, it is a semi-essential amino acid for some individuals. Individuals recovering from injuries or with reduced kidney or small intestine function may need supplemental arginine as their capacity to produce the amino acid isn’t sufficient to meet their body’s demands.

Arginine plays a pivotal role in the urea cycle, allowing the body to rid itself of toxic ammonia. Converting ammonia into urea is a complex biological process. It begins by converting ammonia into carbamoyl phosphate to allow it to enter the cycle. The carbamoyl phosphate converts to citrulline by transferring a phosphate group to l-ornithine. The citrulline undergoes a condensation reaction to form argininosuccinate, which enzymes break down into arginine and fumarate. Other enzymes further reduce the arginine into urea and ornithine. The body can then excrete the harmless urine through the urine while sending the ornithine back to the start of the urea cycle to take part in the process again.

L-arginine HCl is the hydrochloride salt of L-arginine. PureBulk derives l-arginine HCl from glucose via molasses sugar. It is vegan- and vegetarian-friendly.

Potential L-Arginine Benefits

  • Nitric oxide booster. One of arginine’s primary functions is to produce nitric oxide. Nitric oxide facilitates vasodilation, which allows blood vessel walls to relax and widen for improved blood flow. Better blood flow supports several areas of health, including exercise performance, cardiovascular function, and immune health. Better blood flow may also facilitate erectile function in men.
  • Enhances exercise performance. Increasing nitric oxide production may improve athletic performance. Better blood flow allows for nutrients and oxygen to reach muscles and support them during intense exercise. Research is also promising. One six-week study noted that athletes given arginine supplements substantially outperformed those given a placebo. Another study confirmed that participants taking arginine supplements experienced significant increases in nitric oxide production and were able to sustain their workouts for longer than the individuals taking a placebo.

Best Nitric Oxide Supplements

Nitric oxide supports several aspects of health. Unfortunately, the body breaks it down quickly. Certain supplements inhibit this breakdown and provide nitric oxide benefits for longer.

L-Arginine and L-Citrulline

L-Arginine and l-citrulline are some of the most popular nitric oxide boosters backed by a notable body of scientific research.

Citrulline is the precursor to l-arginine. It can sustain nitric oxide production when taken with reduced glutathione (GSH). These supplements synergize to delay the breakdown of nitric oxide.

PureBulk carries other nitric oxide boosting supplements as well, include:

  • Supports heart health. Vasodilators support heart health by widening blood vessels, reducing pressure within blood vessels, and boosting circulation. Better circulation allows the body to deliver nutrients and oxygenate itself more effectively. Arginine supplements may ease chest pain symptoms, too.
  • Fortifies the immune system. Arginine assists with the formation of T-cells, a type of white blood cell. They partake in the humoral immune response by activating B lymphocytes. B cells create antibodies that bind to pathogens and toxins to prevent them from infecting healthy cells. Arginine also promotes more rapid wound healing by accelerating lymphocyte production.

Potential L-Arginine Side Effects

Research shows that arginine supplements are likely safe, even in doses as large as 20g. However, this is excessive and can cause adverse gastrointestinal effects, such as stomach upset and diarrhea. Most individuals tolerate standard 600mg doses well. However, mild side effects may occur in some. These include stomachache, nausea, or bloating.

Individuals with impaired kidney or liver function should consult a physician before taking arginine supplements. Individuals with low blood pressure or taking blood pressure medication should discuss arginine supplements with their doctor, as arginine may reduce blood pressure. Anyone with a recent history of heart attack should not take arginine supplements.
