Product Details

What is Vitamin H?

Vitamin B7’s original designation was Vitamin H. The H stood for Haar and Haut, which is German for hair and skin.

Although discovered in 1927, vitamin H didn’t gain essential vitamin status for another 40 years.

What is Biotin Pure?

Biotin pure is a vitamin B7 supplement. PureBulk derives Biotin Pure powder from d-biotin, the only bioactive and naturally occurring form of this essential vitamin. Its scientific designation is vitamin B7, but most individuals refer to it as biotin. The word biotin comes from the Greek word bios, which means ‘to live.’

Biotin is a coenzyme to several carboxylase enzymes. The body uses these biotin-dependent enzymes for gluconeogenesis (synthesizing glucose) and fatty acid oxidation. The body stores biotin via biotinylation. The biotinylation process attaches biotin to proteins, nucleic acid, and other macromolecules that are essential for metabolic function. Biotinylation provides a non-destructive way to deliver these compounds to cells.

What is Biotin Good For?

Biotin helps support healthy hair, skin, nails, and metabolic function. Biotin also converts proteins, carbohydrates, and fats into useable energy within the body. Vitamin B7 helps the body use glucose for energy as well. Biotin activates acetyl-COA carboxylase, an enzyme that helps synthesize myelin. Myelin acts as an insulating layer of ‘sheath’ that protects nerves.

Biotin for Hair

Keratin proteins are the primary components of hair, skin, and nails. Biotin supports keratin’s foundation, and it may provide hair health benefits. One study found that biotin supplements reduced hair shedding and improved hair growth in thinning areas. Another study supported these findings and noted improved hair quality.

Biotin for Skin

Biotin deficiency can cause skin problems, including red and scaly skin. Biotin crosses the skin barrier with ease and can increase serum levels of B7 from topical applications. Biotin may help hydrate and smooth skin for an overall better appearance.

Biotin for Nails

Biotin may convey significant benefits for nail health and appearance. One study found that biotin supplements reduced nail splitting and improved nail thickness, particularly in participants with brittle nails.

Other Potential Biotin Benefits

Certain individuals are at risk for a biotin deficiency. Long-term use of antibiotics or anti-seizure medication may interfere with biotin metabolism and uptake. Pregnant and breastfeeding women may experience biotin deficiency due to the increased demand for it. However, individuals should always consult with their physician before starting new supplements.

Potential Biotin Side Effects

Biotin is safe and has no known toxicity level. As a water-soluble vitamin, the body excretes excess B7 through urine. However, ingesting high levels of biotin supplements may interfere with diagnostic blood tests. Some labs use biotin-streptavidin technology, and excess biotin consumption can cause falsely normal or falsely abnormal results. Individuals should consult their physician before starting new supplements.
