What is Cordyceps Sinensis?
Cordyceps sinensis is a fungus native to the high-altitude plateaus of Tibet, Nepal, and Bhutan, where it grows on the larvae of ghost moths. Long before modern science took notice, practitioners of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) had been using it for centuries as a broad-spectrum tonic for fatigue, respiratory weakness, kidney insufficiency, and diminished sexual vitality. Historical records dating to at least the 15th century describe it as a rare and precious substance, once reserved for imperial households.
The bioactive constituents responsible for its diverse effects include polysaccharides, cordycepin (3’-deoxyadenosine), adenosine, and a range of sterols and nucleosides.
