Product Details

What is Inosine?

Inosine is a nucleoside that modulates RNA and translates genetic code. It also synthesizes purines, which are the building blocks of DNA and RNA. Inosine metabolizes into the antioxidant uric acid and scavenges free radicals. It also has anti-inflammatory, neuroprotective, cardioprotective, and immunomodulatory properties.

Potential Inosine Benefits

Inosine influences several aspects of health, but its mechanism of action is unclear. Researchers believe inosine plays a role in:

  • Antioxidant activity. The body uses inosine to produce uric acid. Uric acid acts as an antioxidant by scavenging free radicals and blocking free radical activity. It’s particularly effective against free radicals that target the heart.
  • Modulating the immune system. Cytokine storms can trigger an excessive immune response. Inosine can inhibit the production and suppress the effects of proinflammatory cytokines. Inflammation is a natural part of the immune response, but too much can cause long-term health damage. Inosine also helps regulate the innate immune system to target bacteria better and reduce the likelihood of aberrant immune responses.
  • Neuroprotection. Inosine stimulates branches of axon growth in nerve cells. Nerve growth is essential for the brain and nervous system to heal after an injury.
  • Heart health. Inosine promotes vasodilation. Vasodilators help widen blood vessels for better blood flow and oxygen delivery throughout the body. They also soften the muscles in artery walls and veins, which allows blood to flow more easily. Better flow means the heart doesn’t have to work as hard and reduces pressure. Inosine may also help improve cholesterol levels.
  • Energy production. Inosine may improve energy by enhancing adenosine triphosphate (ATP) availability, the primary energy source for cells.
  • Potential Inosine Side Effects

Most individuals can take inosine supplements without adverse reactions. Inosine may increase the risk of uric acid-induced conditions, such as gout and kidney stones.
