Product Details

N-acetyl d-glucosamine (also known as N-A-G or GlcNAc) is a naturally occurring amino sugar that is critical for synthesizing glycoproteins and glycosaminoglycans, essential components of connective tissues, skin, and cartilage. It is a glucosamine derivative and the biologically active form of n-acetylglucosamine. It occurs naturally in crustacean shells; the human body can also produce it. As a supplement, n-acetyl d-glucosamine supports joint health, digestive health, and skin health.

Potential N-Acetyl D-Glucosamine Benefits

  1. Joint Health: N-acetyl d-glucosamine may help support joint function and mobility by contributing to cartilage maintenance and repair. Studies show it can alleviate joint pain by promoting synovial fluid and cartilage synthesis. It stimulates the production of hyaluronic acid, a crucial component of synovial fluid that lubricates joints and absorbs shocks. Additionally, n-acetyl d-glucosamine decreases type II collagen degradation while boosting its production, further supporting joint health.
  2. Digestive Health: N-acetyl d-glucosamine supports gut health by helping to repair and maintain the intestinal lining. Studies show that it promotes the synthesis of mucin, a glycoprotein that protects the mucosal lining of the gastrointestinal tract. It can also restore mucus membrane integrity and function. As a result, it may benefit individuals with inflammatory bowel conditions.
  3. Skin Health: N-acetyl d-glucosamine may enhance skin health by boosting hyaluronic acid levels. In addition to supporting joint health, hyaluronic acid helps maintain skin hydration and elasticity. Elevated hyaluronic acid promotes moisture retention and improves the appearance of wrinkles.
  4. Anti-inflammatory Properties: N-acetyl d-glucosamine has anti-inflammatory effects that may benefit conditions characterized by chronic inflammation. It inhibits pro-inflammatory cytokines and suppresses mast cell activation. Suppressing these cells prevents them from releasing histamines and other inflammatory agents.

Potential N-Acetyl D-Glucosamine Side Effects

Most individuals tolerate n-acetyl d-glucosamine well, but some may experience mild heartburn. As with any supplement, it is essential to consult a healthcare provider before beginning use, especially for individuals with existing health conditions or allergies, including shellfish allergies, as n-acetyl d-glucosamine often comes from shellfish shells.
