Product Details

What is Zinc Gluconate?

Zinc is an essential mineral that serves as a cofactor for over 300 enzymes and 1000 transcription factor proteins that transcribe DNA to RNA. It’s one of the most abundant trace metals, second only to iron. Zinc is ubiquitous in the human body, but the brain, liver, kidneys, muscles, bones, and parts of the eye contain the highest levels.

Zinc gluconate, sometimes referred to as zincum gluconicum, is a gluconic acid salt form of zinc. It is a potent zinc supplement as it is slightly more than 14% zinc by weight. It outperforms other forms of zinc, such as zinc citrate. Zinc gluconate is the form of zinc seen in lozenges aimed at reducing the duration of the common cold.

Potential Zinc Benefits

The body can’t synthesize zinc and relies on dietary sources to meet its nutritional needs. Oysters, poultry, and red meat are good food sources of zinc. Vegans and vegetarian foods that contain zinc include beans, nuts, and whole grains. Zinc plays several roles in the body as hundreds of enzymes require it to function. It also acts as a messenger by activating signaling pathways. Zinc deficiencies are common and affect more than 2 billion people around the world. As much as 25% of all people worldwide are at risk of developing a zinc deficiency, and nearly one-third of the human population doesn’t consume enough zinc from diet alone. While zinc supplements can resolve deficiencies, this essential mineral has several other beneficial properties.

Zinc for Immune System

Zinc has a long history as an immune system enhancer, and it is a component of many immune support supplement blends. Zinc has antioxidant properties, allowing it to reduce inflammation and support cellular health. It also supports immune function by acting as an anti-viral. Zinc has an impressive body of research regarding its ability to support respiratory health. Zinc supplements help reduce the severity and duration of cold symptoms. In fact, seven scientific studies reported that participants taking zinc lozenges experienced up to a 33% reduction in the duration of the common cold.

Best Zinc Supplement

PureBulk carriers several forms of zinc, including:

Potential Zinc Benefits for Skin

Zinc is essential for a healthy skin barrier and may improve acne symptoms. Individuals that suffer from acne often have less zinc in their system than those without acne lesions. Zinc supplements may help reduce the number of acne bumps and the associated inflammation. Insufficient zinc levels can cause an increase in androgenic production. Androgens affect sebaceous glands and sebum production. Excess sebum causes an oily buildup on the skin and increases the likelihood of acne breakouts. Elevated androgens can also lead to hormonal acne.

Potential Zinc Side Effects

Most individuals can take zinc gluconate without experiencing significant side effects. Exceeding the recommended upper limit of zinc supplements may cause gastrointestinal side effects, including upset stomach, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea. Zinc may reduce the effectiveness of antibiotics when taken together. Taking excessive zinc doses may interfere with the absorption of other nutrients over time.

Zinc and Quercetin

Quercetin is a powerful antioxidant that synergizes with zinc to enhance each other’s anti-viral effects. Quercetin helps boost zinc levels and helps transport zinc across lipid barriers.

Zinc Gluconate Dosage

PureBulk’s zinc gluconate supplement powder is 14.39% zinc by weight. A 250mg serving yields 36mg of zinc. Use a milligram scale to achieve an accurate measurement.
