Product Details

What is Resveratrol (Japanese Knotweed)?

Resveratrol is a stilbenoid and polyphenol found in red wine, red grapes, raspberries, blueberries, and bilberries. Red wine owes its high resveratrol concentration due to the grape seeds and skins used to make it. Resveratrol is rich in antioxidants and may support several areas of health, including enhancing longevity, reducing inflammation, and supporting heart and joint health.

Resveratrol and The French Paradox

The typical French diet is high in fat, which often correlates to heart health problems and diseases. However, the French tend to have lower cardiovascular disease rates despite their eating habits. One explanation is that the French also consume red wine regularly, which is rich in antioxidants like resveratrol. As such, many attribute resveratrol as an explanation for the French Paradox.

Potential Resveratrol Benefits (Japanese Knotweed Benefits)

Resveratrol Antioxidants and Longevity

Resveratrol’s popularity is largely due to its effects on longevity. It doesn’t increase lifespan so much as it helps the body defend itself against external factors that contribute to premature aging. The overall effect is an improvement in the quality of health. Resveratrol antioxidants also protect against oxidative stress and free radical damage. Without antioxidants, free radicals can damage cells and cause or worsen chronic diseases. Resveratrol antioxidants also support cognitive health by acting as neuroprotectors and anti-inflammatory agents within the brain.

Potential Resveratrol Benefits for Inflammation and Joint Pain

Resveratrol may support joint health due to its anti-inflammatory properties and antioxidant content. It protects against oxidative stress and reduces inflammatory gene expression in the joints. Resveratrol may also reduce joint pain by preventing cartilage breakdown.

Best Resveratrol Supplement

Pure Bulk's trans-resveratrol powder contains at least 50% trans-resveratrol derived from the Polygonum cuspidatum plant, also known as Japanese Knotweed. Resveratrol exists in two forms as cis-resveratrol and trans-resveratrol. Trans-resveratrol is more bioactive and makes the best resveratrol supplements.

Resveratrol and Heart Health

Resveratrol has several mechanisms that may support heart health. Resveratrol stimulates the production of vasodilators like nitric oxide, which encourages blood vessels to widen and relax. It also helps reduce pressure on artery walls. Resveratrol antioxidants further support heart health by scavenging free radicals and reducing oxidative stress in the heart. Resveratrol may improve blood fats levels, too. Research shows resveratrol antioxidants help decrease LDL (bad) cholesterol levels by inhibiting fat oxidation.

Resveratrol Supplement Interactions and Synergy

Resveratrol and Quercetin

Resveratrol and quercetin are antioxidants with anti-inflammatory properties. Both also support heart health. These supplements work better when taken together to provide superior results. Their most notable synergy relates to inhibiting fat cells from forming and protecting blood vessels.

Resveratrol for Skin

Resveratrol antioxidants may support skin health in several ways. They neutralize free radicals that damage skin and accelerate aging. One study found that participants taking resveratrol supplements had greater skin antioxidant power and less oxidative stress. Researchers also noted that participants taking resveratrol supplements had better skin moisturization and elasticity with diminished roughness and wrinkle depth.

Resveratrol and Curcumin

Resveratrol and curcumin are both anti-inflammatories that protect joint cartilage. They yield better joint-health support as a pair than as standalone supplements.

Resveratrol and Melatonin

Taking resveratrol and melatonin together enhances their antioxidant, neuroprotective and cardioprotective properties.

Potential Resveratrol Side Effects

Most adults can take resveratrol supplements without experiencing significant adverse effects. Mild gastrointestinal upset or nausea may occur in some. Individuals taking anti-clotting medication or certain pain relievers should consult a physician before taking resveratrol supplements, as resveratrol may interact with them.
