Niacin, also called nicotinic acid or Vitamin B3, is a water-soluble member of the B complex family. Niacin is one of the most stable B vitamins, as it is resistant to the effects of heat, light, air, acid, and alkali. Niacin is critical for synthesizing coenzymes that play a role in hundreds of bodily functions. However, its primary role is to obtain usable energy from food by supporting the enzymes responsible for cellular metabolism.
PureBulk's Niacin is the immediate release form of this vitamin, not a timed or slow release.
Niacin is critical for transforming food into energy within the body. It is a precursor for the nucleotide nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD). NAD exists in an oxide and reduced form, which comprise a REDOX (oxidation-reduction) pair. A NAD REDOX reaction occurs when one NAD molecule oxidizes to transfer an electron to another NAD molecule. This electron transfer is a significant source of cellular energy.
Niacin supplements exert antioxidant effects as well. Niacin is a cofactor for many antioxidant enzymes and energizes these enzymes through REDOX reactions. The body needs an adequate supply of NAD to protect and repair cells damaged by oxidative stress.
Niacin influences several lipids found in the blood, including HDL cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, and triglycerides. Niacin supplements may be able to help balance the blood levels of these lipids. Improving blood fat levels also supports heart health. Niacin offers additional support for heart health by releasing prostaglandins. Prostaglandins reduce inflammation and help widen blood vessels, which improves blood flow.
Niacin’s anti-inflammatory properties promote skin health. It also helps protect skin from sun damage. Niacin may improve hyperpigmentation on the skin by acting as a lightning agent.
Niacin may increase blood sugar levels. Individuals that have problems regulating their blood sugar should speak with their physician before taking niacin supplements. High doses of niacin supplements may also cause the skin to flush.
Large amounts of niacin supplements can cause the skin to turn red and grow warm. Niacin supplements may widen blood vessels and increase blood flow, which can lead to a flushed appearance. This flush isn’t harmful, but some individuals experience headaches during a niacin flush.
PureBulk offers two forms of Vitamin B3 supplements: niacin and niacinamide. The chemical difference between the two forms is that niacinamide has an amide group attached to the basic niacin form. Both compounds can convert into the coenzymes NAD+, NADP+, NADH, and NADPH, playing key roles in energy metabolism and anabolism.
PureBulk's supplements are tested by accredited third party labs in the USA to ensure their identity, purity and potency. To receive a copy of these test results or any other PureBulk supplement please fill out the COA request form found here.
