What is N-Acetyl L-Glutamine?

N-acetyl L-glutamine is an acetylated analog and source of L-glutamine. L-glutamine, or simply glutamine, is the most abundant amino acid that serves several roles in the human body. It acts as an energy source for the digestive and immune systems, which prefer glutamine over glucose. It’s also a popular pre-workout supplement as it synthesizes proteins, supports exercise performance, and reduces muscle soreness. Whey protein, casein, meat, and eggs are the best food sources of glutamine, but taking supplements provides more reliable results.

Glutamine is not an essential amino acid, as the body can synthesize it from glutamate and ammonia. However, it can become conditionally essential during periods of stress because the body’s glutamine demands exceed its production capabilities.
