Free radicals are a normal part of numerous biological processes, but they cause oxidative stress when they outnumber antioxidants. That stress results in oxidative damage that worsens or promotes the development of many chronic illnesses and induces premature aging. Cissus quadrangularis is rich in antioxidant compounds, including ascorbic acid (vitamin C), carotenoids, phenols, resveratrol, quercetin, and vitamin E. Research shows it also effectively reverses the damaging effects of free radicals by increasing antioxidant activity.

One study found that cissus quadrangularis expedited bone fracture recovery. A larger study lasting three months noted that cissus quadrangularis fostered better bone fracture healing by increasing the proteins the body needs to form bones.

Other clinical trials examined cissus quadrangularis’ effects on joint pain and swelling. Research shows that cissus quadrangularis reduces the swelling and pain caused by fractured bones. It has also proven effective at reducing chronic joint pain and swelling in animal studies. Researchers believe this is because cissus quadrangularis decreases numerous inflammation markers.

The cissus quadrangularis blend also improved participants’ total cholesterol, LDL (bad) cholesterol, and triglyceride levels.

Another study reported that cissus quadrangularis synergizes with African mango extract to significantly improve fat loss and weight loss compared to a placebo. Participants taking cissus quadrangularis with African mango extract lost 4kg of body weight, whereas the placebo group did not experience any weight loss. By the end of the 10-week trial, the cissus quadrangularis and African mango group lost nearly 12kg of body weight and just over 20% of their starting body fat.
