Beta-hydroxybutyrate (BHB) calcium powder may be a mouthful to say, but this compound continues to garner attention as low-carb diets grow in popularity. When individuals make the change to a low-carb diet, their bodies switch from burning glucose to burning fat for energy. The liver then breaks down fatty acids and generates ketones in the process. The body uses these ketones when carb stores are low as a fuel source for muscles, organs, and even the brain. Of the three ketones created during this process, beta-hydroxybutyrate (BHB) is the most plentiful. It accounts for over three-fourths of the total ketones.
BHB salts bind with a mineral such as calcium to improve its absorption. Once consumed, the digestive system removes the calcium to use the BHB as energy while the mineral supports other bodily functions. Many individuals take calcium beta-hydroxybutyrate when starting a low-carb diet to help them adapt to the change.
While the body can produce ketones, it may struggle to make enough when beginning a low-carb diet. BHB Calcium powder may be able to help individuals in the following ways:
Most individuals tolerate ketone supplements like BHB Calcium well. The most common potential BHB Calcium side effects include stomach discomfort, nausea, and diarrhea.
